It was a wild opening week of 2023 for Big Ten Basketball. Here’s how it impacted this weeks “Power Rankings:”
1. PURDUE @BoilerBall
The Boilermakers had to bounce back after losing to Rutgers to kick off the week then taking victories over Ohio State and Penn State.
2. WISCONSIN @BadgerMBB
It was an interesting week for the Badgers as Wisconsin squeaked out a win over Minnesota then followed up with a loss at Illinois.
3. RUTGERS @RutgersMBB
A 2-1 week for the Scarlet Knights opened up 2023 with a bang and a win over No. 1 Purdue, career victory 300 for coach Steve Pykiel.
4. MICHIGAN STATE @MSU_Basketball
The Spartans rolled to a 2-0 mark for the week taking down Nebraska before beating arch rival Michigan, victory number six in a row.
5. NORTHWESTERN @NUMensBBall
The best team in the state of Illinois resides in Evanston as the surging Wildcats ran their record to 12-3 with wins over Illinois and Indiana.
6. IOWA @IowaHoops
A spices week for Fran McCaffery and the Hawkeyes with victories over Indiana and Rutgers.
7. OHIO STATE @OhioStateHoops
The Buckeyes squandered a chance to knock off Purdue and then followed that up with a road loss at Maryland.
8. INDIANA @IndianaMBB
It wasn’t a great week for Mike Woodson’s squad as Indiana went 0-2 losing at Iowa then at home to Northwestern.
9. MICHIGAN @umichbball
Hard to figure Michigan out at this point of the season after a 1-1 week including beating Penn State and a loss to Michigan State.
10. PENN STATE @PennStateMBB
A winless week has Penn State fans starting to sweat a little about their team’s chances this season.
11. ILLINOIS @IlliniMBB
Turmoil in Champaign was quelled by a big victory at home versus Wisconsin.
12. MARYLAND @TerrapinHoops
The Terrapins went 1-1 this week week losing to Rutgers but then bouncing back to defeat Ohio State.
13. NEBRASKA @HuskerHoops
A road win at Minnesota gave the Huskers a 1-1 week after starting things off with a loss at Michigan State.
14. MINNESOTA @GopherMBB
The Gophers played well last week but still came up short in losses to Wisconsin and Nebraska.
