SiriusXM Big Ten Radio’s Football Power Rankings Week 3

Here’s how the SXM Big Ten Radio team voted to shape this week’s edition of the “Power Rankings” after week number three of the 2022 season.

1. OHIO STATE 

Ohio State (3-0) scored touchdowns on 11-of-12 possessions before running out the clock to end the game to down intrastate foe Toledo (2-1) 77-21 Saturday at Ohio Stadium. Offensively, C.J. Stroud completed 22-of-27 passes for 367 yards and five touchdowns while Kyle McCord connected on 5-of-7 passes for 115 yards and a score in relief.

2. MICHIGAN

The Wolverines closed out its non-conference schedule with an emphatic 59-0 victory over UConn on Saturday (Sept. 17) at Michigan Stadium. Michigan’s shutout is its first since defeating Rutgers 52-0 in the 2019 campaign.

3. PENN STATE 

Penn State exploded in the second half to earn a 41-12 win over Auburn on Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Nittany Lions scored 17 unanswered points in the third quarter and outscored the Tigers, 27-6, in the second half. Penn State earned the Big Ten’s first sweep of a home-and-home series against an SEC opponent since Northwestern in 2010 and 2012 against Vanderbilt.

4. MINNESOTA

Mo Ibrahim ran for three touchdowns, Tanner Morgan threw for three more and the Minnesota Gophers’ defense stifled the Colorado Buffaloes in a 49-7 win on Saturday.

5. MICHIGAN STATE 

The Spartans fell at Washington, 39-28, on Saturday before a crowd of 68,161 at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium. Spartan quarterback Payton Thorne completed 30-of-42 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns, while sophomore wide receiver Keon Coleman recorded career highs in receptions (9), receiving yards (116) and touchdown catches (2).

6. MARYLAND 

The Terps (3-0) turned a key Dante Trader Jr. interception in the fourth quarter into a touchdown, putting them ahead of SMU (2-1) for good in a 34-27 victory.

7. WISCONSIN

Braelon Allen rushed for three touchdowns to help lead Wisconsin to a 66-7 victory against New Mexico State Saturday. The three-TD performance for Allen matched a career high.

8. PURDUE

A Syracuse touchdown with seven seconds left to play handed Purdue a 32-29 loss in its road opener on Saturday in the JMA Wireless Dome.

9. IOWA 

In a game punctuated by three rain delays (lasting 236 minutes) the University of Iowa football team defeated Nevada, 27-0, early Sunday morning on Duke Slater Field inside Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes finished the six hour and 59-minute marathon with a season high 337-yards of offense.

10. INDIANA 

Connor Bazelak threw a touchdown pass and completed a 2-point conversion pass with 47 seconds left Saturday to force overtime and Charles Campbell made a 51-yard field goal to give the Hoosiers a 33-30 victory over Western Kentucky on Saturday.

11. ILLINOIS 

The Fighting Illini had a bye in Week 3.

12. RUTGERS 

Rutgers football took down Temple on the road by a score of 16-14 to start the season 3-0. It marked the second straight season RU has gotten off to a 3-0 start.

13. NORTHWESTERN

Southern Illinois scored 17 second half points and defeated Northwestern 31-24 on Saturday afternoon at Ryan Field. Each team is now 1-2 on the season. Evan Hull totaled 124 yards to lead the Wildcats ground attack and added one touchdown, his fifth straight game finding the end zone.

14. NEBRASKA 

Nebraska scored on its opening drive to take a 7-0 lead, but Oklahoma answered with seven touchdowns, as the No. 6 Sooners rolled to a 49-14 victory to spoil the Husker head coaching debut of Mickey Joseph on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
