SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s Power Rankings – June 14, 2023

The NASCAR Cup Series went road course racing in northern California last week at Sonoma Raceway. Here’s a look at the “Power Rankings” following Sunday’s Toyota SaveMart 350:

1. Kyle Busch

Followed up his Gateway victory with a runner-up Sonoma finish as Busch keeps putting very impressive numbers up on the board. Busch is definitely rounding into the look of a driver more than capable of competing for a third Cup title come November.

Point Standings: 6th

2.  Martin Truex Jr.

Win number two of the season for Truex Jr., who continues to show the form that made him a NASCAR champion. He was never not near the lead on Sunday and led 51 laps on his way to a rather dominating performance.

3. William Byron

A bad qualifying effort certainly didn’t do Byron any favors and he fought trying to work his way through the field most of the day in Sonoma. He finished 14th ending a streak of six straight top 10 finishes.

4. Kyle Larson

An eighth-place finish for Larson who had a race car much faster than that result. The timing of cautions thwarted Larson’s effort for a better outing but the Hendrick Motorsports driver who did put together back to back top 10’s for the second time in 2023.

Last Week: 6th

5. Joey Logano

By his own admission Logano did not have the best car at Sonoma. But he was still able to wrestle his Team Penske Ford home to a third place performance to give him back to back top 10 finishes for the first time since the opening pair of races to the season.

6. Denny Hamlin

The driver that started the day from the pole ended up on the other end of the spectrum as Hamlin finished last thanks to a misjudgment on his part and a trip into the wall that severely damaged his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.

7. Kevin Harvick

He keeps hovering around the top 10 and that was the case for Harvick in Sonoma. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver posted an 11th with his best finish over the last five races a second.

8. Christopher Bell

There still appears to be something off with the 20 team at Joe Gibbs Racing just enough to keep Bell from challenging for better finishes in recent weeks. He had a decent day with a ninth place effort at Sonoma.

9. Ross Chastain

He took advantage of a caution that helped Chastain come home 10th on Sunday anding a run of three straight runs outside the first twenty finishers.

Point Standings: 4th
Last Week: 8th

10. Ryan Blaney

It’s been rare to find Blaney outside the top 10 of late but that’s what happened in Sonoma when the Team Penske driver struggled to come home 31st in Sonoma.
