For a change, it wasn’t the New England Patriots’ defense causing confusion for the opposing offense.
According to cornerback Logan Ryan, the Tennessee Titans managed to turn the tables on the way to their 34-10 upset victory Sunday.
‘Our whole goal was not to hand them anything’
“Our offense came out and put points on them and put them behind, and we did a good job getting some stops, mixing some defenses that they hadn’t seen and also being really aggressive,” Ryan told Steve Torre and Bill Lekas on The Sunday Drive. “And our whole goal was not to hand them anything. They do a lot of no-huddle tempo to try to get some free yards there.”
Knowing how explosive Tom Brady and the Patriots’ offense are, Ryan, who formerly played for New England, said the Titans made a point of not letting up even after taking a 27-10 lead in the third quarter.
‘I just kept telling the guys, ‘Stay in in it and make them earn everything’’
“We just wanted to challenge everything and, collectively, we just did a good job as a team and we stayed in it for four quarters,” the cornerback said. “Because I’ve been on that side of things, (when) teams got up on the Patriots and come back from 28-3. So I just kept telling the guys, ‘Stay in it and make them earn everything.’
“And now we know what we’re capable of. We know we have some good players on this team. We’ve got some good coaching and we’ve just got to be consistent with it. And that shows when you beat a team like this.”
‘We know that we have one of the best defenses in football, period’
What does the win mean for the 5-4 Titans?
“It just shows that if you execute we can play with anybody in this league,” Ryan said. “We know that we have one of the best defenses in football, period. We’re trying to keep people out end zones. We do that and our offense plays like it did (Sunday), were going to win a lot of games.”
